DRIFT was founded in Edinburgh, Scotland by Computer Science graduate and music enthusiast Simon Denholm. It started out life as a simple, once-a-month Soundcloud series which invited local DJs to step back from their familiar floor filler tunes and take a more laid back approach. DRIFT focuses on 'non-club' music - a term which is open to interpretation and has led to a huge variety of mixes in the series, with everything from jazz to liquid DnB being played.
Shortly after this, the concept evolved into a live music event and DJs from across Edinburgh were invited to showcase their favourite chilled out tunes in intimate venues. House Of Gods, Dragonfly and, most recently, The Doghouse played host to relaxed listening sessions where the focus was on sitting back and enjoying the music rather than dancing to the beat as you would in a typical club. Unforunately, due to COVID 19, events were put on hold, but there's plenty in the works and we look forward to welcoming you with open arms when things get up and running again.
DRIFT's most recent foray has been into the world of radio, where resident SSID hosts a monthly show on Liverpool based station Melosic Distraction. You can catch him bringing the latest in downtempo and ambient from across the globe, in addition to a 30 minute guest mix, on the 4th Sunday of every month at 6pm.
